The Convergence Newsroom

The Convergence Newsroom is intended as the grand finale for undergraduate journalism majors at Roosevelt University. Our goal is to produce a reporting project that shows depth and sophistication in content; a project that utimately is presented in multiple  formats (print, video, web and photographs); one that illustrates student mastery of journalistic processes, from idea conception and development to finished work. In this course, students continue the practice of telling journalistic stories, relying on primary sources, in-person interviews and research. Students immerse themselves in the selected topic, spending time in the field doing real reporting, interviewing sources involved and affected by the issue we selected each semester.
Although our course project is a team project, each student completes individual assignments along the way to the completion and presentation of the final team project. In previous semesters, students have exploired homelessness in Chicago, homicide and the impact of crime, drugs, poor education and other sociological ills on African-American males.
